Uncommon Threads Clothing Drive
One of our WIC Week activities was a clothing drive for Uncommon Threads, whose mission is to use clothes and image as the tools for boosting women’s self-esteem, self-confidence and self-worth. The chapter dropped off six large bags of new/almost new clothing to the organization on Wednesday, April 5. We got a tour of their fantastic boutique located in a mill building in Lawrence.
Clients are referred by social workers who work with domestic violence survivors and women in need. Clients receive a private styling session with one of the Uncommon Threads “volunteer stylists”, where they learn their best styles and colors and get advice on how to dress to project a positive image. Clients get up to four complete outfits suitable for their lifestyle. Uncommon Threads’ goal is for women to leave the boutique feeling empowered, nurtured, beautiful and confident.
Founder and Executive Director Susan Kanoff said, “We are so grateful to the group for supporting Uncommon Threads and for sharing our mission of empowering women.
The donations are fabulous and will all be put to good use!” The organization clearly has a profound impact on the women they serve. NAWIC Boston Chapter is grateful for the opportunity to work with Uncommon Threads and look forward to partnering with them in the future!
